McCarroll Genealogy Collection
The McCarroll Genealogy Collection is located on the second floor of the Hopkinsville Library. The endowment was established in memory of Joe McCarroll by his brothers William McCarroll and Charles McCarroll, Joe McCarroll died on Sept. 7, 1931 at the age of 83.
Our collection contains approximately 5,000 books including numerous periodicals from different states and counties. Out of the 120 counties in the state of Kentucky, we have something on 79 of those counties and out of 48 states we have books on 25. Within this collection are books on census records, cemetery records, will books, deed books, funeral records, court order books, and tax lists which date from 1783 thru the present.
Also within this collection are obituaries dating as early as 1880’s up to the present day, which are done on a daily basis from the Kentucky New Era.
We have a general collection of books for the state of Kentucky which includes Kerr’s, Johnson’s and Collins’ history, census books from 1790 -1850, marriage records, land grants, pioneer records, tax lists, vital statistics, and war records, all generally start about 1784.
